The main stream press often accuses those who would try to stem the tide of illegal immigration of racism. They refuse to see that not only are American citizens being hurt by illegal immigration, but the illegal resident himself is also often exploited and mistreated by employers, and in the worst sorts of cases is a sex slave in the Land of the Free. For the press who refuse to see this reality, it is a case of the truth be damned, at any cost to American citizens as well as the illegals.

This has been proven over and over again: Congress will respond to what we demand of them. But notice here the operative word: demand. I’m not saying “gently ask”, or “humbly plead” but demand,
in a very firm, unmistakable way, over and over again, in large numbers, until it’s clear they’ve heard you and plan to take action. You’ve heard of the sales people who won’t take “no” for an answer? The truth is that every successful sales person has one predominant quality: persistence. They don’t say, you know what, this is too hard, I’m going to go home and lick my wounds. They keep pushing forward, knowing that a “yes” is out there if they just don’t give up. And you know what? As simple as it sounds, it works.

Still, I must ask myself as we fold up the lawn chairs and head back to our homes for the night, how did we reach this point in our history?

What will ultimately work or not work to solve this illegal immigration crisis?
As I watch the red lights of the Border Patrol vehicle disappear in the distance, potential answers and solutions to the crisis take shape in my mind. At the same time, I think of Josefina and how her tragic
journey across the border became and how unfortunately typical it is for so many illegal immigrants to risk their lives to come to America in pursuit of a better way of life. It is her story, in fact, and all its gruesome tragedy, that is part of what drives me to do the work I do with the Minuteman Foundation and to seek ways to prevent more such terrible endings in pursuit of the American Dream.
